The Basics of Marketing

The Basics of MarketingRegardless of what kind of product or service is being peddled, all entrepreneurs have one common problem which they must face everyday—how to attract customers and retain their loyalty. That is the single most important principle that must be considered if one wants to run a successful business. In order to achieve that goal, businesses need to be armed with a good marketing strategy.
When it comes to making a marketing strategy, businesses must remember two guiding principles. The first of the two is that the company’s resources and efforts should be used to, first and foremost, satisfy customer needs. The second principle is that a profitable sales volume is always more advisable than maximum sales volume.

Market Research
In order to make sound decisions, a business should be armed with information which is not just relevant but timely as well. But businesses do not have to shudder at the thought of having to launch a research program since one which makes use of questionnaires is often inexpensive. From a simple research, a business will be able to find out if there is brewing customer dissatisfaction or if there is a new product or service that may be developed based on the customers’ preferences. Trends can also be identified with the help of market research.

Marketing Strategy
By coming up with a marketing strategy, a business basically singles out certain groups of customers which it thinks that it can serve better than its rival businesses. In order for the said business to achieve this goal, it designs product offering, prices and promotional efforts so that they resonate well with the identified customer groups in order for there to be good reception to the said business’ goods or services. The entire gist of a good marketing strategy is to come up with ways so that a business can serve its target market better.

Target Marketing
This entire segment is all about focusing the business’s efforts and resources on only a few key marketing segments. For instance, geographic segmentation primarily deals with a business serving only customers which are part of one area. On the other hand customer segmentation is concentrating a business’s marketing efforts only to certain people who are more likely to buy specific products or services. For instance, a dental clinic that specializes in teeth whitening procedures may send out ads to young adults since they are the most likely to be conscious about their appearance.
