5 iPod Touch Apps That You Will Not Regret

Apple has changed the face of consumer electronics more radically than any manufacturer has in the recent years. While the company has its fair share of detractors, we cannot deny the allure that Apple products have for the ordinary individual. From iPods to MacBooks to the iPhone - these devices have become the objects of desire for many a gadget enthusiast.

I have to admit that, while I am far from being an Apple fan girl, I do have a propensity for getting Apple products. I can’t imagine life without my MacBook, and my iPod Touch is never far from my reach. During down times, the iPod Touch and its host of apps have proven to be a great way to pass my time. With the plethora of apps available for the iPod Touch, prioritizing which ones to download can be an overwhelming task at times. Let me share with you 5 of the iPod Touch apps that I will recommend unhesitatingly anytime.

One of the things that we use our mobile phones and iPods for is to check the time and set the alarm. While that must not have been foremost in the minds of the designers of these gadgets, we cannot deny that it is simply convenient to use the iPod Touch to wake us up in the morning. So far, the best app that I have found for this purpose is Nightstand Central. It functions as a clock and has an alarm. More than that, though, this app also shows you information on the weather in your location, and you can customize the wallpaper. For those who pay close attention to details and aesthetics, Nightstand Central will not fail to satisfy.

Nightstand Central has a free version, which you can use to test out the basic features. If you want to be able to use your own music for alarms, set a sleep timer so you can listen to your favorite lullabies as you fall asleep, and so on, you might want to check out the paid version for $1.99.

Any individual who writes for the web - or offline, for that matter - will always find use for a good dictionary. When it comes to online dictionaries, Dictionary.com has established itself as one of the main go-to sites. Their FREE iPod Touch app loads content rather fast, which is a big plus. More so, you also get the Word of the Day feature that they offer in the main web site. The thing that I like most about the Dictionary.com app is that it offers voice support. Just say the word you want to look up out loud, and you will get the definition/s almost instantly. Oh, and you do NOT need to be connected to the Internet to look up the meanings of words!

It has been said that the iPod Touch is a traveler’s best friend, and I have to completely agree with this! Being on the road at least once a month, the TripAdvisor app is perhaps one of my most used apps. Countless people agree with me, as this app has become the #1 free travel app in more than 20 countries!

If you travel on a regular basis, this app can help you discover hotels, restaurants, and attractions - just like the TripAdvisor web site. The convenience factor is priceless, as you can check out the same information without having to turn your computer on. It also has more than 10 languages built-in, so practically everyone can make use of the app. Going to hit the road soon? You cannot not have this app!

I have been known to state that Flight Control is the best thing I have ever spent $0.99 on - and I will not hesitate to say that again. This game is definitely one of the most addictive games I have every played, even though the concept is so simple. The idea is for you to manage planes and land them without one crashing into the other. Of course, the actual game play can get complicated, depending on the strip that you choose and the level you are on, but that only makes the game even more interesting. With the latest version, you can even play in multi-player mode and challenge your friends to find out who the best flight controller is!

I have to warn you, though, do not start a game if you have something urgent to do within the next few minutes. People have been known to stay up way into the night trying to outdo their highest scores.

No list can be complete without this ubiquitous game. In the blink of an eye - well, almost - Angry Birds has become the top selling app of all time. People who have not had the occasion to play the game with its cute - though sometimes irritating - birds and pigs may have their doubts. But once you have actually played the game, you will realize just how fascinating it can be. While I said above that Flight Control is the best thing I used $0.99 on, Angry Birds just might prove me wrong. (Yes, I bought Flight Control before Angry Birds and tried to stay away from the hype of the latter - to no avail.)

There you have my top 5 recommended iPod Touch apps. Needless to say, they were chosen based on personal experience and are reflect only my own opinion. What would be in your list if you were to make one?
